On 27th March 2010 the 7th SELECTED EVENT 2010 was held at Alter Wartesaal in Cologne.
Unfortunately for me that evening didn't work at all. It was my 2nd 'Selected' event I attended and maybe because the one at Hansa Studios was the first one and therefore some kind of a peak of that tour I didn't really like the show in Cologne.
This time Sarah Blackwood of CLIENT was the supporting act performing a DJ set.
The sound of RECOIL was really impressive though - everything vibrated a lot and was a true pleasure to hear RECOIL music at that loudness level. The location was rather interesting as it was an old historical building next to the central railway station. |
BUT: RECOIL was just a part of a DEPECHE MODE party. I know there were a lot of people busy organizing this event and putting their heart into it - full respect for that!
To me it felt a little bit annoying that RECOIL was just some point of the party schedule. There was DEPECHE MODE's "Perfect" running and then Paul and shortly later Alan got on stage. The screen was tiny. They performed A STRANGE HOUR and the second after they left the stage some DEPECHE MODE tune of 101 started immediately.
Sorry, but I only could shake my head about that. It just didn't feel right to me at all.
Hansa on the other side really felt like a true RECOIL event. As some kind of a real art-event.
Although Alan is a professional musician I had a feeling that he was a little bit upset by that (just my personal view). He told me already in Berlin that he didn't like all the DEPECHE MODE-shouts already in Spain during the shows.
Fortunately I got to the event with Oliver (webmaster of Shunt) and I met there a few other mates such as Marc and Philipp resp. Thomas from the DEPMOD message board having some good chats with a few drinks.
