A Strange Hour, 19/03/10 · Features

On 19th March 2010 the 3rd SELECTED EVENT 2010 was held in the famous Hansa Studios in Berlin.

To seize the opportunity a small convention of members of the DEPMOD message board was organized to meet each other again and to experience this show together. We had already met a year earlier in Berlin for a DEPECHE MODE concert and a special DM guidance through Hansa Studios.

I arrived actually one day earlier in Berlin for an interview for this website.

On the day of the event we met again in a small bar we call the "DEPMOD Bar", a place we had shared some good moments already in 2009. Having some "breakfast beers" we noticed it was exactly 20 years ago that VIOLATOR was released!

After spending the whole day together we got to Hansa Studios in the early evening. A lot of people were already outside waiting to get in and getting some impressions of the soundcheck that was going on. The DEPMOD guys were "warming up" in the restaurant next door to Hansa.

The first act of that evening was Daniel Miller together with Gareth Jones performing a complete rework of DEPECHE MODE's CONSTRUCTION TIME AGAIN album with background projections of the Matterhorn as featured on the original album sleeve. Subsequently a Q+A session was held on stage where Alan and Anne Haffmans joined Daniel and Gareth.

And then finally A STRANGE HOUR started giving everybody a really good time in the beautiful Meistersaal. There was a true feeling in the air that this is some kind of a real art-event.

After the show had ended we were given the opportunity to enter the backstage area and take part of the after show party. Everybody was spending a great time having chats (also with Alan and Paul of course) and celebrating this exceptional evening with several drinks.
